Google Trends & American Idol

IF! reported yesterday that Google has launched a trends service that monitors news mentions and search requests for keywords. Maura Welch over at the Boston Globe’s blog, The Business Filter, has tired a test to see if it will predict the American Idol winner:

To to give it a road test, I entered in the names of all 4 American Idol finalists to see if I could understand why Chris Daughtry got axed last night… Last night’s voting results had Katherine McPhee and Chris Daughtry in the bottom two.
