saville row fears change for the worse

By Piers Fawkes on May 7, 2006

The Telegraph reports on changes that are planned for London’s Saville Row. The tailors therefear that the introduction of mass-market retailers could jeopardize the street’s illustrious heritage.

Tailors fear that the creeping introduction of high street brands will dilute the street’s appeal by flooding it with cheaper fashions manufactured overseas. They also fear that redevelopment will lead to soaring rents, which have already risen sharply over the past decade, and could result in their businesses having to move.
