“My Throat Is All Sore, Boss – Honest” : A report suggests that absenteeism in the UK could rise from to 25 per cent during the World Cup costing £98,788,923 per day. If England get through to the later stages of the tournament this could rise to 40%. This is highly unlikely though without old Rooney. The Indie says:

“Absenteeism was likely to rise the day after World Cup matches, as workers took time off to recover from the previous night’s celebrations or commiserations.”

(N.B. the following stats were made up by a company that helps companies combat absenteeism – but what the hell – let’s let the PR industry pat themselves for ‘making news’ a few more times on the back before their way of life is over)
