I did a presentation recently about what I do and the technology I use – one of the areas I focussed on was Instant Messaging and its application in my in my day to day work.
I use Adium (and, in the past, Fire) which aggregates all my chat profiles from MSN, Yahoo, Google and AIM into one manageable app. I was surprised with how many of my contemparies were not using IM but also how they never knew such programmes existed.
I chat to people across the globe, some are friends, others are business colleagues, all are invaluable in keeping me sane and focussed. What applications and programmes can’t you do without?

Haven’t heard of chat programs? wow.
As for me, I use iCal a lot. I resisted for a long time, and could not get into it at first. But discovering the color-coding function helped. I also downloaded a widget that works with iCal to give me a snapshot of where I need to be in the next day.
Also – Bloglines makes my life infinitely easier.
I was at your talk at the planning conference – loved it. Even though I consider myself to be pretty “up” on things, you put me to shame.
