New Gehry Opens In Spain

by Piers Fawkes in Luxury, Transport & Travel, Architecture

gehry rioja marques riscal spainAfter peppering the world with his extravagant, moving designs, Frank Gehry returns to the country where he built one of the most important buildings in his career: Spain.

Not to far from his Guggenheim in Bilbao, Gehry has developed a hotel for the Starwoods hotel group in the Rioja wine region. The three colored titanium ribbons on the Hotel Marqués De Riscal building (pink, gold and white) are meant to symbolize the wine, the foil, and the wire covering a bottle of plonk. The hotel opens in September.
