Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week launches an African summer
Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week launched on Tuesday 11th July. Now in it’s fourth edition the event has now become an established feature of the South African schedule and is now the largest gathering of African fashion designers. Whilst many of the major established designers are still to show one of the most immediate impressions of the event is of alot of diversity in style from "street" fashion (which I think SA has increasing potential in) to more traditional evening wear and "afro-chic" influnced designs. It does seem that designers are finding more confidence to find more individual styles which does point to a growing maturity in the still young SA fashion scene. Another interesting thing to note is the number of digital/online media attending with some interesting results. Of particular note is the series of podcasts on key collections by Women24.com http://www.women24.com/w24/podCasts/w24__podFashionWeek.rss.
Local Bloggers Cherryflava.com and ifashion.com are also camping out at the event and worth following. And selected designers also have galleries on Vogue.com.
