Shoot London
Contributed by Amanda Gore:
My friends and I took part this weekend on a photographic treasure hunt of London, arranged by Shoot Experience- it’s a really great idea and lots of fun, and judging by the speed the event sold out I think has a great future in lots of other cities too.
It’s set out like a treasure hunt- you get a list of clues which you have to decipher, each of which leads you to a specific location. Once there you take a photo of the object/ landmark, making the photo your answer to the clue. There are then prizes for the best photographs, but these are judged on creativity/ humour/ team effort rather than photographic skill!
This weekend there were 2 events- the main event on Saturday (Shoot London) started at the Tate Modern in the morning where you were given the clues to solve the treasure hunt, ran around all day completing it, and returned to the gallery in the evening for a party and prize-giving. Unfortunately we didn’t book in time to get tickets to that, but instead did Shoot London Lite on Sunday which was the same idea but had no specific location to start/finish and instead emailed the clues at midnight on Saturday, giving you 24 hours to complete the mission!
The Sunday event was organised because they had a much larger response to the original one than they had anticipated. The organisers are planning to have an exhibition of the winning pictures at City Hall on South Bank, and have 2 more events lined up already.
I’ve attached our clues – as you can see they’re pretty hard but thanks to good old google (which was allowed!) and our combined brain power we managed to solve them all! We’re still waiting for the judging- I’ll let you all know if we win any prizes!!
