Somewhere, Somehow - Everyone Deviates From The Mainstream

Last night Chris Anderson, Wired and Flavorpill held a pretty awesome party in Tribeca Cinemas in New York City to celebrate the launch of the Longtail book. Chris gave a quick talk before ushering on bands like the Brazil Girls and DJs like SmallChange and James Murphy from the LCD Sound System.

One of the closing points Chris made was that there really isn’t such a thing as a mainstream. Yes, we may look like the mainstream (we eat vanilla ice-cream and watch CSI) but somewhere we all have a little quirk: maybe you make rockets, play boulles on the weekend or even crave the nuggets of delight spewed daily by a purple blog - and it’s these quirks that allow the Longtail to work in every market, allowing companies and individuals to win from the misses.
