A nationwide Harris Poll of a whole 2,351 U.S. adults surveyed online during a whole one week in June has allowed Harris Poll to publish a press release claiming that the top brands in the US are:
1. Sony
2. Dell
3. Coca Cola
4. Toyota
5. Ford
6. Honda
7. Hewlett Packard
8. General Electric
9. Kraft Foods
10. Apple
The press release says, ” Survey responses were unaided and a list of brand names was not presented to respondents.”
Huh?
So what we can really make from this is that Americans who have a propensity to do online polls tend to use Sony monitors, Dell PCs and HP printers while sitting there drinking a can of pop and a bowl of cereal wishing they really had an Apple Mac! ;)
When are we going to get tired of news being created for PR sake??

Your question is absolutely right. With the growing trend toward “pull” rather than “push” marketing, even the pollsters better start acting like they get it.
They’ve got to get better than simply making or creating statistics say what they want.
