Yahoo Gets A Facelife

Yahoo has launched a new homepage that relies heavily on new-web-programming language Ajax. Much of the page is customizable or interactive. Wired Magazine’s Monkey Bites blog thinks that it’s a sure move to make folk believe that Yahoo! is a destination, not a portal:

Yahoo has moved their web directory from the prime location at the top of the front door to a vertical nav bar that runs down the left side. This is interesting because it signals a further move away from the directory-centric “web portal” model. Yahoo defines itself as a destination now, not a portal.
