Currys goes green
Currys department store began selling solar panels alongside their electronics and household appliances as a pilot scheme in several UK branches.
"A typical £9,000 system, with nine panels, can generate about 40% of an average household’s annual electricity demand, cut bills and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by two tons a year.”
A spike in electricity prices combined with a general increase in environmental concerns prompted the department store to explore the green product. Consumers who generate more electricity than they use would be able to sell their surplus energy to a national grid.
