DVD-9 & Creative Pirating

DVD-9 & Creative Pirating

By Jason Tan on August 9, 2006

There’s a brand new innovation in pirating that has made its way to Manila. It’s called DVD-9. These are discs with massive storage. Locals used to have to buy boxed
sets for TV series DVDs so even pirated versions were considered costly
(relative to income). Thanks to DVD-9, an entire TV season can now fit
on a single disc at a price of US$2.91 at current exchange rates.

Creativity has quickly followed the storage power. DVD-9
has granted young, erm, …media bargain hunters access to multiple "live concert" shows packaged in a
single disc. It’s also now possible to actually make movie playlists. Some popular ones now are mixes of Oscar nominated films organized by year or by category.
