Cast_2Sex and the City became an enormous success because women
were able to
relate to the
candid chronicles of the foursome on a previously unattainable level.  A large part of the show’s success can be attributed to rich and dynamic characters development; viewers undoubtedly can identify with one character more than the rest – living vicariously through “their” characters experiences.

It seems HBO has recognized the brilliance of this formula, and is trying it out with their male audience in the hit new series Entourage.

As part of our Carnival of Man project, Nick Mueller sheds some light on the similarities between the two series and ponders upon men’s attraction to the series.

Entourage is the complete functional equivalent show for dudes.

In the same improbably perfect way that the Sex and the City girls hung around all the best NYC parties in all the hottest outfits, always caught in some romantic drama, that worked out perfectly by the end of the show – so do the Entourage guys find themselves in the terrible “Aston Martin” or “Ferrari” type of dilemmas. And I eat it up. I guess I really am a target market.

We still kinda doubt the male fans of Entourage will ever make a quiz to determine which character they are most like.
