Yep, you thought you’d never have to put your body through it again. You thought that the all night all day all weekend narcotic-fuelled mayhem of the Balaeric Islands has subsided into a more chilled and sensible ambience. Well, too bad: you’ve got to go and do all that damage to yourself yet again, the Observer reports:
A resurgence in the popularity of dance music and the rave culture that has seen nearly all of Ibiza’s superclubs, such as Space and Pacha, break records for visitor numbers seems certain to continue for the rest of the summer. The music magazine Mixmag claims that, after years in the shadows, dance music is back to its high popularity level of the mid-Nineties. Celebrities have been keen to join the party. Budding DJ Peaches Geldof, 17, performed in Ibiza last week alongside Pete Doherty and Noel Gallagher. Mick Jagger’s daughter Jade recently held a spectacular party there.

NME have been trying to brand the loose collection of new dance/rock indie bands ‘New Rave’.
It’s nonsense, but does reflect the new hedonism in British youth culture. Like ‘Old Rave’, and any underground(ish) youth trend, it’s got a dark side. It seems to be created from a cocktail of rave drugs, post 7/7 paranoia, and my cool older cousin’s record collection.
Question to PSFK: is this for real, and is it global?

If you read the article it does go into great length about how drugs are fueling this – but don’t drugs fuel all of these things, no?
I think this is a little local – but if you read the other post from today about Drum & Bass in Buerons Aires – maybe we can start to connect the dots.
Thanks for the comment D.
