Voices Of Bam
With figures like Michael Moore spotlighting the genre, there seems to be a reawakening of interest in culturally important Iranian Cinema. Friday night sees Voices Of Bam played at the Museum Of Moving Image NYC which looks at the Persian city that lost so many to an earthquake at the end of 2003. The museum says:
Directed by Aliona van der Horst and Maasja Ooms. Special Jury Prize, Tribeca Film Festival. This portrait of the Iranian city of Bam, devastated in a 2003 earthquake, “accords its subjects enormous dignity while giving them an opportunity to express themselves with a rare, simple eloquence” (Peter Scarlet, Tribeca Film Festival). The screening will be preceded by classical Persian music performed by Ashkan Jalali on the ney (a flute-like instrument).
Worth checking out. 7.30 Friday Aug 11.
