Alternative Graffiti

Throwies

If your personal interest tags include "urban" and "expression", then point and click your mouse over to Graffiti Research Lab ("Dedicated to outfitting graffiti artists with open source technologies for urban communications").

One fascinating project uses small magnetic LEDs, called Throwies, that can be - you guessed it - thrown at "ferromagnetic" surfaces, such as oil producing equipment in order to get your political message across or even trams. This is called "Train Bombing". Says GRL:

LED Throwies are an inexpensive way to add color to any ferromagnetic
surface in your neighborhood. A Throwie consists of a lithium battery,
a 10mm diffused LED and a rare-earth magnet taped together. Throw it up
high and in quantity to impress your friends and city officials.

How to make your own throwies.
