MTV just released a new game based upon their pueso-reality TV show, Laguna Beach. With no actual competative elements, the "game" is basically just a place for teens to burn some time and flirt without ever having to get sand all over their sheets. Sort of a cross between MySpace and SecondLife, Virtual Laguna Beach is:
A virtual world where you can live the show right alongside friends and
fans – via a persona that you craft from head to toe. It’s the whole
Laguna experience in a parallel online universe – including special
events, exclusive prizes, cool groups, shopping, and more.
Heron Preston poses some intersting questions regarding how the "game" will alter guys behavior online and off:
After speaking to some kids about MySpace and how they like to use it
as a way to “bag chicks” (pick up girls), I thought to myself “O No,
this is just another reason for guys to get totally obnoxious with
girls online”.Will this make shy men more aggressive and
open online?? Could this bring out some true talent? How much emotion
will this create in someones real life? What if your virtual girl from
VLB dumps you? Will the emotion get carried into daily activities by
possibly altering the performance at work or school? HAHA, I’ll let you
decide.
