Hotspot Bloom
From the ‘wearable technology’ files comes Hotspot Bloom, a kind of brouch which glows and changes colour to indicate the strength of the nearest wi-fi network. Designed by media artist Karen Lee who focuses on the wearable and wireless technologies.
Based on a hot-to-cold scale, Hotspot Bloom glows red in a location with a strong wi-fi signal, green to orange for a medium signal, blue for a low signal, and pulses blue if there is no signal available at all.
I’m not sure about this – I don’t think it’s meant for mainstream sales but I can imagine there’s a better design to be explored other than a flower. Plus, looking at other wi-fi locators on the market there seems to be a lot of simpler options.
And how long before we see your mobile phones to be able to do the same job?
