We saw this quote in the Guardian and we thought how on Earth does Neilson get away with it, when it’s so easy to track:

There are well over 35m blogs on the net. Keeping abreast of all of them is impossible. But Nielsen BuzzMetrics, a New York firm, has developed an expertise in monitoring blogs – it works for 150 of America’s Fortune 1,000 firms.

So how, do you avoid the costs of a firm like Neilson. Well, the simple answer is that you use watchlists and keywords on blog search engines like Technorati. These search engines are set up to alert you when a word or web address (e.g. a brand name of brand website) is mentioned or linked to.

Using the Watchlist functionality, anyone can track mentions of brands like Pepsi or www.CocaCola.com.

You can add all your favorite keywords and web addresses to this section (Registration Required) – and then you can monitor each Watchlist search by RSS – straight to your RSS reader.
