Graham Hill’s goal is to help push sustainability into the mainstream, and through his blog, Treehugger – he has thus far been successful.  Treehugger  is dedicated to everything that has a modern aesthetic yet is environmentally responsible and has set the standard for blogs of it’s kind.  PSFK had the good fortune of sitting down with Graham and discussing the the future of Treehugger and independent publishing in general.

1.  In the short time, since we last spoke, there seems to have been so
many changes in independent media and publishing. What’s changed in
your world – in media and personally?

User Generated media has really taken off with Digg and similar sites.MSM is getting into blogging in a much bigger way.  We´re slowly getting profitable and getting organized.

2.  Beyond any financial reward, what do you get out of it all? What drives you?

I get a real kick out of the prospect of us helping influence people and corps to go greener. How amazing would it be if in 10 years, we could see that actually set out to make a difference and did!

3.  Are you conscious of YOU the brand as much as your site? Do you leverage the fact?

TreeHugger is a much larger and more important brand than myself. Heck, I don´t even write anymore.

4.  How do you view the other independent publishers that cover the same content areas as you?

We share similar causes so I view them as peers. And I hope that we push each other to do better and better. We need a lot of people hitting this problem from a lot of angles..

5.  How is mainstream media covering your content areas? Is there a noticeable reaction to what you and your peers are doing?

We have been covered extensively, which is great. I´d like to think that our growth has inspired MSM to do more coverage of green.

6.  How is your world going to change over the next 12 months?

My hope is that we move from break-even to making some money and funneling most if not all of it back into developing better content and tools to push green into the mainstream. I´m happy with how far we have gotten and am excited about how far we still have to go. I´d sure love to see us visibly push the needle.

Thank You
