Since Murdoch acquired MySpace last year there has been lots of discussions on the ‘whys’ and ‘what fors’ – the announcement over the weekend that the social networking behemoth will now enable its users to sell their music could be the start of how they intend to monetise it outside of straight advertising.
The site is already highlighting how its existing 3 million unsigned bands can decide how much to sell their tunes for, and how there will be a ‘distribution fee’ included in that price for MySpace.
Looks like iTunes now has a serious competitor.
