Having a social networking site just to have one nowadays seems like a waste of time. I prefer ideas and businesses that incorporate social networking as one facet of a business that generates profits in a variety of ways. For instance I ran into these guys when evaluating Play Coed as an advertising vehicle….

PlayCoed.com which makes money by payment processing, advertising, and merchandising. They have an interesting model because the social networking aspect of the site doesn’t take precendence, but it factors into the business model.
