The worldwide video game industry as worth $29 billion in 2005 and according to some new reports from DFC Intelligence, it’s set to top $44 billion in 2011. However, a battle is emerging regarding which of the three dominant platforms – Sony PlayStation 3, the Nintendo Wii and the Microsoft Xbox 360 – will finally become market leader.

Author of the DFC report, George Chronis:

The video game business is changing in major ways. Sony and Nintendo are shaking up the industry with new business models. These are uncertain times where neither conventional wisdom nor historical data necessarily predict who the winners and losers will be during the next three-to-five years.

Interesting times ahead it seems although maybe a new platform will emerge to shake it all up?
