“This is what happens when the Dungeon’s & Dragon’s crowd grows up, become computer programmers, cash in stock and rule the world…” reads the email from tipster Ray Bacon with a link to the Shire – a real estate development that is more Merlin and warlocks than Desperate Housewives. The site reads:
The Shire evokes a sense of Place and Enchantment. All the homes in The Shire are facing the fully landscaped common areas. You will find Old World dry stack terraced walls supporting beautifully developed planting beds. Walk along the curving pathways to discover scene after scene of interestingly integrated garden features within the lands of the hobbits: waterfalls tressing, streams meandering, garden statues, ponds, lush grasses, towering pines, twisted juniper. Sing in your own amphitheater, discover the homes of the orginal Shire residents embedded in the hillside. At home in The Shire……Connect with Nature……Smile at your neightbor and feel at peace in this village community, in this sanctuary, in this Place of Enchantment!

Not surprisingly, this isn’t the first time a D&Der has done something like this in the real world. Richard Garriott, Lord British of Ultima fame built a castle in Austin that he opens to the public during Halloween: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britannia_Manor

This is definitely one of the more amusing things I’ve seen lately.

Where exactly is this located? I’ve been on the site for a few minutes and still cannot figure out whether this is an actual development, or it’s virtual.
