Airport Uses RFID Tags For Retail Research
At Manchester Airport in the UK, the research team are asking travelers to wear RFID tags so that they can track their routes and behavior through the airport so they can spot opportunities for retailers. The airport first used RFID tags as ways to monitor congestion at security but they soon realized a more profitable use. Tech News World says:
A recent study showed that passengers spend 7 pence (13 US cents) for every minute they spend in the retail area. If the airport could improve that by three minutes, the potential annual return is 2.3 million pounds (US$4.3 million).
