Let’s Get Loud
‘Let’s Get Loud’ is a new movement in Melbourne, Australia started by creative activist Dale Dickins, the aim of which is to get people to wear their own logos/designs/ideas as a
measure of self expression, or evolution on the planet.
"When I wear clothes I’ve painted, that are an expression of me, I’m way
more approachable (I chat with sssooo many ‘strangers’), I’m
interactive, participatory, bold… and from the smiles that spread
around, I sense there’s an energy which spreads to others. In a
nutshell, it makes a difference to me, therefore it does to the people
around me.""And that’s how the vision and the questions started… if each and every person dressed to communicate, or express our ‘selves’ would that make a difference to our energy levels I wondered?? If the E of E=Mc2 is human energy, then could Melbourne impact the world given that this city is a multi-cultural success. It is possible that if enough people here began to experience the power of self expression through clothing that the world could be impacted energetically??"
The movement uses clothes
painting workshops as the vehicle for realising its vision, initially working with children and progressing to include teenagers and older.
"Last weekend I facilitated T-shirt painting for teenagers at the ‘Thank God It’s Over’ Festival, created to celebrate the final year of High School. Those who participated absolutely loved it, loved that the service was available, loved the colors, and loved that they could create their own designs saying what THEY wanted."
More than just customisation, ‘Let’s Get Loud’ is about creative
articulation of identity, and Dale imagines the movement’s website madinmelbourne
"being like a living magazine, with real people modelling their own
designs". Still in it’s early stages and currently looking for venues around Melbourne to make the service
available on a regular basis, Dale is offering help for anyone who wants to run their own workshop, and hopes to grow the movement
globally. Will be very interesting to see how this progresses, could ‘No Logo’ become ‘My Logo’?
