MTV and Wal-Mart have joined forces to promote sustainability and teach consumers how to live “everyday green.”  According to Christina Norman, president of MTV, the music channels audience “has emphatically stated that environmental issues are their top concern.”

The joint initiative between the retail giant and youth icon have transformed the MTV retail store in Times Square into an eco-friendly exhibit displaying Green products and instructing patrons on how to incorporate Green living into their everyday lives.  With the focus of the exhibit being on the little steps that people can easily make, the exhibit featured low-tech items such as CF light bulbs, phantom power strips, and reusable bags as well as some fundamental rules of thumb – like integrating more indoor foliage.  In addition to the exhibit, the store will also be selling t-shirts, recycled paper products, re-useable water bottles and coffee mugs.

This seems a likely venture for MTV, but Wal-Mart’s inclusion in the eco-friendly exhibit reeks of sneaky PR.

The "Everyday Green" exhibit is free and will run from Oct. 23 through Nov. 10 at the MTV store in Times Square on the corner of Broadway and 44th.
