This is for all the PSFK jetsetters out there who find themselves in Japan and then discover their mobile network doesn’t stretch that far.

Go Mobile provides a mobile phone rental service for travelers who find themselves in need. On the basic package, incoming calls are free, local calls rates are 85 Yen per minute (less than $0.75 US) and International calls (mobile or landline) are 100 Yen per minute.

To rent a phone on this package for one week costs $26 plus there is also a 24 hour concierge translator service in case you need some help with the language and you forgot how to order a beer.

Be interesting to compare current overseas tariffs from your mobile network provider before heading East - it’s a simple business model and which I’m sure could be replicated in other countries.
