There have been quite a few articles about the rise of vending machines selling us stuff – but what do we do with the cans and bottles after we’ve consumed the stuff? We stick it back in the machine! Thanks to a nice spot by Springwise, let us introduce Reverse Vending – a vending machine that recycles for you. This machine here can take up to 1000 cans and bottles, recognise the materials of each one using barcode scanning and can crush ‘em all up.

Good idea, but the only real way to get people using these machines is to charge an added premium, say 20p/25cents, on their drinks which is refunded upon recycling – the technology is there but you just know the drinks companies won’t want to agree to it. Perhaps the government could enforce it?
