Site Visit: Puma Union Square
Last night was the preview event for today’s opening of the second NYC Puma concept store. Located on the western side of Union Square, the shop is for the moment tucked under some scaffolding. While hiding the store, it came in handy last night to shield everyone from the downpour of rain. The shop has a fairly small store front and raised sidewalk window.
Differing from the meatpacking location, the Union Square store appears much more finished and planned. The interior is fairly narrow and long, making for a lot of wall space but not so much floor space. There are two long floor fixtures positioned near the entry that serve to highlight new collections. Right now one of them is fully stocked with Ferrari apparel and shoes(until I get to the store later today that is). Wall space in the front is broken up into merchandising panels that feature more apparel and accessory groups.
Shoes are located in the back of the space on modular shelving. Moveable panels break out different shoe types based on application and style. Some are clever like ‘hot stuff’ (which is winter footgear),’heritage’, ‘emerging sports’ and ‘motorsports’. There are also two of their digital sizing machines, ensuring you get the right fit.
While we questioned the location of the Fila store awhile back, Puma should do very well at this location. I wouldn’t doubt they will grab a few customers on their way from the subways over to the soon to open H&M on 5th and 19th. Not to mention the close adjacency to sporting goods legend Paragon.
