Have you ever bothered to look around the club as you’re stumbling out the doors in the wee hours of the morning? It’s not a pretty sight.
Most people hit the clubs seeking refuge from their daily grind and
after just a drink or two, quickly regress from their otherwise dilgently
eco-friendly habits into reckless consumers. But it’s not nessesarily
all their fault, club owner aren’t exactly setting the senario for
sustainability – untill now that is. A new concept club is being presented this month in Rotterdam under the name "The Critical Mass."
Producing and consuming in a responsible manner are no longer reserved for a small group. Enviu – innovators in sustainability – and Döll – studio for the art of building – have developed the Sustainable Dance Club together. An attractive way of clubbing combined with a low impact on the environment. Soon you can generate energy while dancing and flush the toilet with rainwater. The color of the walls changes as a reaction to the heat without any energy use and you can drink a biological beer at the water basin on the ‘relax roof’. These are just a few examples of what the Sustainable Dance Club can entail.
The energy generating dance floor isn’t here yet, but future plans will be announced at the kick off party at Rotterdam’s Off_Corso on October 14.
