Taking Charity to the Extreme
Following on from the huge success of the Lance Armstrong Livestrong yellow wristband- which spawned every other charity to reproduce the idea in their signature colour and led to high-street brands copying them for non-charitable means (Nike springs to mind!)- Texas jewelry company Kendra Scott Design are taking the idea to the extreme by producing a limited edition gold version to celebrate 10 years since Lance Armstrong was first diagnosed with cancer.
According to Luxist, "Kendra Scott’s version comes in either 18K white or yellow gold
engraved with the Livestrong slogan with a yellow diamond set in the
"O." The band will retail for $10,296, with a portion of the purchase price going directly to the Lance Armstrong Foundation." – No word on just how big that portion will be though.
The bracelet is another example of the extreme giving trend that is being seen everywhere, led by the champion philanthropists Bill and Melinda Gates and encouraged by the abundance of hugely expensive charity fundraisers- the most recent being The Fortune Forum launched a fortnight ago in the UK with an event that cost £1,000 a ticket and raised over £1m.
