Over on sense.psfk, Sarah Flynn compares the two press conferences she visited for the launch of the Zune and the SanDisk / RealNetworks player respectively. While the Zune demonstration was mired with bugs, the SanDisk e200r demo left Sarah with questions:
The obvious reality is that the e200R is still nowhere close to being a threat to the iPod model – why should it be? Debates over DRM, device stability, and user interface aside, the bottom line is that if you offer a consumer an 8GB mp3 player for the same price as a more popular industry standard that holds 30GB, they’re always going to pick the latter product first. At this point, I don’t think anyone expects that to change. What the e200R does bring to market is a more nuanced understanding of the consumer and a real attempt at getting users to interact with the music itself.
