Audi gives SA Fashion some drive

By Dan Pinch on November 15, 2006

The new South Africa is taking its fashion very seriously. Audi has just announced that they will sponsor SAs first autumn/winter fashion week in February 07. Previously SA has only had spring/summer collections so the event is making a stir locally – and will hopefully tempt some international fashionistas to the country.

"AUDI will be the headline sponsor of South Africa’s first annual autumn/winter fashion week, which will see 20 shows take place in Nelson Mandela Square, Johannesburg, between February 13 and 17. The event, now to be known as Audi Joburg Fashion Week, will reach a live audience of approximately 3,000 people – both in the state-of-the-art transparent marquee (housing a glass catwalk), and via live-to-screen video feeds in venues throughout the square. Tempting in buyers, press and VIPs – both local and international – it will be a chance to see the latest collections from South Africa’s premiere designers including Gavin Rajah (who will show for the second time during Paris Haute Couture Week in January), Gideon (who recently showed during London Fashion Week), and KlukCGdT (who will also be on the catwalk during Russian Fashion Week next year)."
