To mark the Arts Council England’s 60th anniversary they have ‘collaborated’ with supermarket chain Sainsbury’s to produce artist-designed re-useable shopping bags. According to Art Daily ‘The ‘art in your hand’
bags have been created to promote the use of environmentally friendly
carrier bags and raise awareness and debate about the role the arts
play in people’s lives.’

There are three bags featuring specially commissioned
work by artists Paul Morrison,
Michael Craig-Martin and Anya Gallaccio. Limited edition of course- (although how limited edition can anything sold in a supermarket be?) the bags are priced at the nominal sum of 50p with all proceeds going to charity. Launched yesterday, I’ve yet to see any of the bags around, but i’m sure it won’t be long- with the growing craze for contemporary art collecting i’m sure these babies will soon be on the arms of fashionistas everywhere!!
