3D Projections

By Industrial Brand on December 4, 2006

Recently we’ve been seeing some really cool innovations making use of video projectors. We make money not art points us toward the latest advance in projector art.

Christopher Bauder and Till Beckmann from w-h-i-t-e-v-o-i-d interaction design have created a piece of software that distorts a video projection image so that when it is projected onto multiple 3D objects, it appears to be “sticking” to the surfaces of all the objects – accounting for uneven surfaces and adjusting the image so as to stay in focus on all visible sides. The resulting images appear to be coming from multiple projectors.

The source videos can be adjusted to the respective objects on the spot with a projected helper grid or an imported 3D model of the real world setup. Once the system is aligned the projected videos can be exchanged in real time by drag and drop in a VJ-like manner.
