AndycubesWe’re not sure about the timing, but we’ve noticed two separate companies using Andy Warhol in their advertising this holiday season. Both Barneys and shoemaker Royal Elastics have made Andy their poster boy.

It’s interesting to see how the companies chose to portray Warhol to better suit their brand. The two companies are on opposite ends of the fashion spectrum, but both managed to align themselves with different aspectsAndy_shoes_1 of the quirky artists that are true to the sprit of their respective brands.

See how both companies frame the Andy they like best in their descriptions of the artist:

Barneys: Happy Andy Warhol-idays!

“Despite his major art-world standing, Andy had a distinctly frivolous side. He loved spending money. He loved shopping. He designed store advertising and reveled in it. He decorated store windows and proudly signed them! He is, in many ways, a kind of patron saint of American retail. For Andy, stores represented a kind of heaven on earth.”

Andy Warhol & Royal Elastics:

“Andy Warhol broke down boundaries and challenged the world to see the familiar from an unexpected perspective. Andy Warhol by Royal Elastics exhibits the same type of boundless energy, creativity, and non-conformist tendencies.”

But really, what brand couldn’t use Andy Warhol to help sell their products? He’s the ideal icon to bring together consumerism and a non-conformist creativity together in one pretty package.
