I know we’re a little late but the Electrolux winning entries are definitley worth a mention. Asked to design household appliances that could contribute to a healthier lifestyle, design students from all around the world offered some intelligent, forward-thinking concepts for the future of consumption.

The winning design, "Nevale" by Metin Kaplan from Istanbul Technical University, is a food carrier that
offers the opportunity to store and carry up to four hot and cold meals maintained through a vacuum system that can be programmed to launch an individual automatic re-heating process at a specific time, whilst maintaining the perfect temperature for cold foods in other compartments.

Second place went to Brian Law Chuan Chai of the National University of Singapore for his "Organic Cook", an appliance that offers oil-free frying, grilling and boiling using infrared technology and vacuum cooking.

"Vessto", the third-place winner, uses renewable energy as a power source through an advanced version of the Stirling Engine. The concept uses heat from the stove to expand and contract small quantities of gas inside the appliance, which powers the product. A touch-sensitive and digital control panel also offers a screen displaying downloadable information such as recipies.
