Providing internet access to developing countries through programs like One Laptop Per Child and Intel’s World Ahead sounds like a great idea—except for that whole electricity thing. Many don’t have a source reliable enough to power a network.

The folks at Green Wifi are getting around this by setting up remote rural communities with solar-powered computers with Wifi. It’s low-cost and easy to employ.

In the spirit of holiday giving, Travellerspoint, an online travel community, is donating profits from its 2007 calendar to the organization. You can buy one here.
