CES 07 Report

By Piers Fawkes on January 10, 2007

David R filed this report for PSFK on the Consumer Electronics Show 07:

The show overall is pretty much about today and not
tomorrow. All the technology seems rooted in what’s
available today. TV is the unofficial theme of the
show. I mean, if you wanted to see a TV that makes you
believe the picture is ‘real’, you’d find it here.

Gaming will help push the need for home entertainmentEmmys
systems versus the other way around. I presented two
Emmys last night: one to Nintendo for their innovation
in game controllers (the D-pad originally found in the
Nintendo NES system); the second, also for game
controller innovation to Sony Computer Entertainment
of America for the ‘Dual Shock Analog Controller’.

PimpmyrideThe auto exhibit hall may have been the sleeper of the
show – it made ‘Pimp My Ride’ look like a second class
citizen.

Otherwise, The show lacked true buzz. Microsoft Vista?
Yeah, prove it works first. And mobile? Eh? Until the
States catch up with the rest of the world this will
always be boring.
