Gawker Media’s Site Traffic Up By 130%

Images Picture-30-1Gawker Media top guy Nick Denton has reported on his blog the traffic stats of his main sites showing the growth between December 05 and December 06. Some of his sites are obviously booming: tech-sites Gizmodo, Kotaku and Lifehacker are all doing well in terms of growth as is sex-site Fleshbot. Gizmodo’s spurt in Dec 06 may also be affected by that ridiculous stunt blogger Brian Lam pulled off over the iPhone during the month.

Meanwhile buyer’s site Consumerist looks lacklustre, travel site Gridskipper has hardly moved the dial and what’s interesting is that the flagship site Gawker has not the greatest growth spurt either.

Here’s our 2c: Some of this slow growth could be down to editorial changes in the fledgling media empire that has stopped some sites having a consistent voice. Some of it has to do with editorial attitude – the guys at the booming sites seem to be in love with the subject matter, while the ones with poorer growth seem to be in love with the fact they’re a Gawker blogger. And as a final thought, we can’t help but think that Gawker Media’s needs to evolve its marketing efforts and avoid relying on PR to get its next surge in readership.

UPDATE: Nick Denton sent us a link about Consumerist stats and said, “Oh, come on, Consumerist was our fastest growing site in percentage terms!”
