The iPod/mp3 player boom has revolutionised the audiobook market. At Simply Audiobooks.co.uk we have seen the demand for audiobook downloads increase at a rate almost 2 times faster than that of our rental service (similar to DVD rental services, no late fees, return one get another sent..etc). That is not to say that the phsyical element of audiobooks is becoming lost, over the Christmas period - as you'd expect - sales of audiobooks on CD outnumbered digital sales by 7 or 8 to 1, proving that some still prefer to have the book sleeve and inlay cards as well as the actual CD.
People like to have a choice - hence why we at Simply Audiobooks offer more than just digital sales, but admittedly, the downloadable market is becoming increasingly dominant.
