The Dreamgirls soundtrack reached number one in the US last week with only 60,000 record sales – the lowest number one selling record in modern pop history. Meanwhile, American Idol launched with 37.3 million people watching the first show – the biggest premiere in the 20-year history of Fox Broadcasting, Billbaord reports.

interesting numbers, however, i’m not sure you can compare the two. if you were to charge 16 bucks for an episode of american idol, i highly doubt you will get 37.3 million episodes sold.
