Speed through airport security by going Clear

by Adrian Lai

For $100 a year, you can now purchase a new way to speed through the airport security line.

Via the Gothamist:

…Private company Clear Registered Traveler
prescreens you and lets you zip through security quickly. After your
boarding pass matches your government ID and special "Clear Card," you
put your Clear Card in a kiosk which will then scan a fingerprint or
your iris. You will also be scanned for explosives,
but the process is supposed to be very quick (though you still need to
take off your shoes - the TSA hasn’t approved the shoe scanning device
for Kennedy yet).

The technology’s currently operating at JFK, and Orlando International Airport, with over 35,000 people signed up since June 2005.

Just another example that we’re approaching a world where privacy is dead, and where giving up personal information means more personal convenience. The more you give, the more you get.

What do our readers think of this technology? Possible security issues? Thoughts on how we can take greater control of our personal data?
