Style Event adds Glamour to GM

Not that fashion.psfk’s trip to the LA Auto Show wasn’t greatly appreciated but we have to admit to pangs of jealousy when reading the Trendhunter report from the Detriot Auto show which they were invited to by General Motors. The GM Style Event was a celebrity fashion car show, cleverly linking the worlds of fashion and auto design and using a vast array of celebs to promote their new offerings.

"It was the first invitation only event that featured stars with cars
strutting their stuff done the runway. Jay Z was the secret celebrity
that kick started the show, riding in the GMC Denali Concept.
Additional stars included Kristen Bell, Nick Cannon, CariDee, Carmen
Electra, Vivica A. Fox, Laird Hamilton, Cheryl Hines, Jennifer Hudson,
Minka Kelly, Jimmy Kimmel, Mario Lopez, Nick Lachey, Danny Masterson,
Petra Nemcova, Rosie Perez, Gabrielle Reese, Ashley Scott and Christian
Slater. There were also musical performances by Lady Sovereign and
three-time Grammy-winner John Legend."

Considering the lack of excitement around the GM events in LA, this is an impressive reinvention and could be the start of some really interesting things from the company. The huge interest in the Versace Lamborghini launched last year has opened the floodgates for fashion and auto collaborations, and it looks like GM might be first in line. Could this be the fashion industry’s version of branded utility?
