In The Corners Of Some Foreign Fields: A Little Bit Of Soho
The Telegraph covers the expansion plans of Soho House - the private members club that was started by Nick Jones in London’s Soho and has set up shop in New York’s Meat Packing district too. The Telegraph says:
Jones plans to open two clubs a year every year for the next five years in a £30m effort to transform Soho House from a British club, with an ace New York outpost attached, into the world’s most fashionable private members’ club network…
Work is also under way on Soho Beach House in Miami, where Jones is spending £5m refurbishing the run-down, 62-bedroom Sovereign hotel. “It’s a s***hole but when we’ve finished it will have beds that revolve, so that you can watch TV or look out over the ocean.” He has also just found a “great downtown building” for a club in Chicago.
This autumn work will start on a Berlin branch, followed by Istanbul and Madrid. He plans to establish a Middle Eastern and Asian branch of the business to create clubs in Tokyo, Shanghai, Cairo and Sydney by 2010.
Back at home Nick Jones is about to launch a £6.5m Shoreditch House in east London and he’s also refurbishing and adding rooms to his original club in Soho and sprucing up the Electric and High Road House in west London.
