Iqons – Social Networking for Fashion Types

Iqons – Social Networking for Fashion Types

By Orli Sharaby on February 18, 2007

There’s a new social network on the block, and the other social networks could be set to develop a serious inferiority complex. Iqons.com has just made its entrance to the social networking party – dressed to the nines (classy and elegant, but with a definite artsy edge), and more than a few minutes fashionably late. With the tagline "Fashion Set Free," Iqons could actually fill a gaping niche in the fashion community:

IQONS aims to provide platform for everyone in the
global fashion industry and create the world’s first
truly interconnected ‘fashion ecology’ comprising of
designers, retailers, models, fashion PR professionals,
               photographers,
stylists, financiers, show producers,
               magazine publishers, manufacturers, head-hunters,
               consumers, aficionados and basically
anybody with an
               interest in fashion.

The site also offers some interesting and inventive features. Every month, for example, a different industry hotshot is crowned "Iqonographer" and trolls around the site critiquing, advising, and possibly even hiring members. According to Fashionista Faran, "In March, the Iqonographer is Vivienne Westwood. In April, it’s
Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz. And in May, everyone’s going to
have a virtual heart attack, because it’s John Galliano surfing the site for new talent."

Need convincing? Visit the site yourself, become an Iqon, and become my friend (well, to use IQONS lingo, join my entourage).
