Lights Out

5min_repit_logo_1We hear via Urban Junkies that today is international lights out
day. L’Alliance pour la Planète, a French environmental group, is asking that we all hit the switch at 6:55pm and remain in the dark until 7pm. Officially dubbed "5 minutes de répit pour la planète," the initiative is an effort to remind us–and our politicians–that we are wasting energy and need to take action.

Paris is all over it–even the Eiffel Tower will be shut off for those 5 minutes–and the word is out in the UK. But while the effort asked that the entire world shuts out their lights, we haven’t heard much about it over here. Since there are no instructions for time zone adjustment, we’ll just assume that this is a local time operation. Let’s have a repeat of NYC’s Blackout of 2003 and hit the streets with open containers.

Wait, we just did that back in August?
