I had a little coffee with Noah Brier of Likemind fame this morning and we talked about how the Likemind coffee morning was spiraling around the world and how we could guide it when we had (or wanted) very little control over it. Our conundrum reminded me of a fabulous book I read a couple of years back called Join Me by Danny Wallace.

Join Me describes the events that takes place after the out of work Danny puts a rather random classified ad in the paper that says ‘Join Me’. People responded and people gathered together on the web. Then they started meeting each other. And Danny hadn’t even met them himself…

We have so many social networks floating around right now that people sign up for – and then say, “What now?” – and the founders haven’t thought about it. Danny hadn’t thought about it either. Danny’s book is a great case study on how he went on to manage and interact with a community on a real and human level.
