Spring Fashion Casualties; More to come?

Two US fashion retail brands got slashed with the scissors today. Mexx which is owned by Liz Claiborne Inc. is soon to be history.

With a new chief executive officer, Liz Claiborne Inc. is beginning to
re-examine its brand portfolio, and the first casualty has hit the
floor — Mexx’s U.S. business. via WWD

Gap’s venture Forth & Towne, an 18-month-old chain targeted at professional women older than 30 is also gone.

Analysts note that women in that age group do not buy clothing as frequently or impulsively as younger women and have begun shopping more at department stores. "We made the tough decision to close the brand and focus our efforts on stabilizing the existing businesses," said Gap’s interim CEO Bob Fisher in a statement. via SFGATE
